Hyundai Creta August 2025 sales – Creta Tops, HyRyder Gains, Seltos & Vitara Struggle

The Hyundai Creta continues to dominate the compact SUV space in India. In August 2025, the Creta (along with its EV version) registered 15,924 units, securing a 37.18% market share. However, sales dipped by 5% YoY and 5.76% MoM, compared to 16,762 units in August 2024 and 16,898 units in July 2025.

The decline in overall demand across the segment is being linked to the new GST tax regime (effective from September 22, 2025). Buyers appear to have postponed purchases, waiting for revised price lists. Industry experts expect sales momentum to return during the festive season.

Overall Segment Performance

  • Total Sales (Aug 2025): 42,835 units
  • YoY Decline: 14.18% (49,912 units in Aug 2024)
  • MoM Decline: 8.21% (46,667 units in Jul 2025)

The compact SUV market (4.2m–4.4m category) witnessed a broad slowdown, with most major models recording double-digit drops.

Toyota HyRyder – The Strong Performer

Toyota’s Urban Cruiser HyRyder stood out in August with 9,100 units sold, marking a 39.27% YoY growth from 6,534 units in Aug 2024. MoM sales also improved by 3.24%, up from 8,814 units in July 2025. This makes HyRyder the fastest-growing model in this category.

Maruti Grand Vitara & Kia Seltos Decline

  • Maruti Grand Vitara: Sales fell to 5,743 units, a 36.34% YoY and 9.89% MoM decline.
  • Kia Seltos: Down to 4,687 units, slipping 28.29% YoY and a sharp 22.01% MoM.
    • Analysts believe customers are holding back purchases ahead of the new-gen Seltos launch later this year.

Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, Mahindra BE6

  • Tata Curvv/EV: Sales halved to 1,703 units, a 50.71% YoY decline. MoM also dropped 15.06% from 2,005 units in July.
  • Honda Elevate: Despite a 3.66% YoY dip (1,660 units vs 1,723 last year), the model achieved a 19% MoM growth, rising from 1,395 units in July.
  • Mahindra BE6: Reported 1,551 units, holding a 3.62% market share.

VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq & MG ZS EV Fall Back

  • VW Taigun: Sales at 1,001 units, down 38.51% YoY and 24.57% MoM.
  • Skoda Kushaq: Dropped to 789 units, a 47.47% YoY and 12.43% MoM decline.
  • MG ZS EV: Recorded just 380 units, falling 21.49% YoY and 53.37% MoM.

MG Astor Shows Recovery

The MG Astor struggled with YoY numbers, dropping 80.90% from 936 units in Aug 2024 to just 179 units this year. However, it bounced back MoM, recording 272.92% growth compared to only 48 units in July 2025.

Other Low Sellers

  • Mahindra XUV400 EV: 66 units
  • Citroen C3 Aircross: 45 units
  • Citroen Basalt: 7 units
All three models registered declines both YoY and MoM, showing weak traction in the market.

Conclusion

The compact SUV segment in August 2025 clearly struggled, with total sales slipping both YoY and MoM. While the Hyundai Creta retained leadership, it was the Toyota HyRyder that emerged as the biggest gainer. Meanwhile, the Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, and Tata Curvv witnessed sharp declines, pointing towards buyer hesitation amid the GST revisions.

Looking ahead, the festive season could revive momentum, especially with new launches and updated models set to hit showrooms.Hyundai Creta August 2025 sales
